Fire Hydrants in the Winterport Water District's Distribution System

The Winterport Water District has 39 fire hydrants in its 6.8 miles of water distribution system. Hydrant manufacturers of those hydrants include U.S. Pipe (USP), Mueller, Ludlow, R.F. Wood and Waterous. All hydrants in the Winterport distribution system open left and are of the dry barrel type.


 

R.F.Wood Fire Hydrant

This fire hydrant was manufactured by the R.F. Wood Company in New Jersey. There are 1 of these hydrants in the distribution system. These hydrants are no longer manufactured. Notice the unique 2-tier hydrant bonnet style.


 

This is a Mueller fire hydrant Model Super Centurion 250. You may click on the photo for a larger size.

This is a Mueller fire hydrant Model Super Centurion 250. The Mueller Company was started in Decatur, Illinois in 1857. Mueller made a wide variety of products but it wasn't until 1933 when  hydrants became part of their product line. 

There are 13 of these hydrants in the water system.

The hydrant pictured here is a Waterous Pacer WB-67-250 Its is composed of all ductile iron construction designed for 250 psi working pressure and tested to 500 psi hydrostatic pressure. There are 5 of these hydrants in the system.

Pictured here is an A.P. Smith "Metropolitan" fire hydrant. This hydrant incorporates all the quality features of the highly regarded A.P. Smith and U.S. Pipe lines of fire hydrants. A.P. Smith began manufacturing fire hydrants in 1896. This hydrant is no longer made.

U.S. Pipe acquired the assets and business of A.P. Smith in 1966.

There are 6 of these hydrants in the system.

This is an A.P. Smith manufactured "H-200" fire hydrant. This hydrant is no longer made. There are 12 of the H-200's and 1 of the H-205 hydrants in the system.

This is a 3 discharge outlet Ludlow "List 75" fire hydrant. It has a 1-piece, 8 1/8"  - inch O.D. barrel. There are 1 of these hydrants in the system.

The main valve of a List 75 is of a slide gate design. This model had a production run of approximately 70 years.

This particular hydrant was manufactured has a patent date of 1880 inscribed on the bonnet.

Ludlow Valve, the makers of Ludlow fire hydrants, was founded by Henry G. Ludlow in 1866 in Waterford, NY. Ludlow Valve closed its doors in 1969.
