Installation: Table

Installations for new waterline services the owner pays costs of new
meter, remote reader and installation.
Owner is responsible for all plumbing to install meter.
Backflow prevention device to be installed by owner at time of meter
installation in accordance with District Cross Connection Control Program.
Section II.
Meter Location:

Meters shall be set within two feet of the point of interior entry into
the building, and in accordance with the District's approved metering
policy.
Meters once set may be relocated, with the District's approval, at the
expense of the customer.
Section III.
Meter Size:

The District will determine the size and number of the meters to be
installed (both temporary and permanent) based on technical requirements
and its metering policy.
Section IV.
Separate Shut-Offs:

Except as provided in Chapter 8l0, each unit of a multi-unit structure
will have its own meter unless a variance is granted.
The District requires separate shut-offs in acceptable locations always
accessible to the District before tenants are allowed to apply for
service.
Section V.
Mobile Homes: Table

Meters for mobile homes will be installed inside the unit.
If remote reader wire must be inside the unit the owner will be
responsible for installation.
Section XI.
Pit Meters: Table

Meters in pits are allowed only with District permission and in accordance
with the requirements of the Maine Drinking Water Program.
Section VII.
Location of Remote Reader: Table

Remote readers will be installed in a protected outside area accessible at
all times.
The owner is responsible for the care of and any damage to the remote
reader.
Section VIII.
Maintenance and Replacement of Existing Meters and Remote Readers

The District will maintain all meters and remote readers after the
original, approved installation.
Remote reader will be installed on all replacement meters with
installation of remote wire.
If dwelling has a finished basement or unit requires transmitting wire to
be concealed, it will be the owner’s responsibility to install wire.
If a meter or remote is damaged due to owner negligence, the owner will be
responsible for all repair and replacement costs.
If a meter is removed or tampered with, the District may estimate water
loss and bill that amount based on past meter history.
The owner must provide access to meter and remote for maintenance and / or
replacement.
Section IX.
Remote Meter Reading

The remote reader is a mechanical device that duplicates the inside
reading on your meter. This remote reader does not measure flow and
therefore the inside meter is the only metering device that can
measure your water consumption. Actual consumption shall be billed
from the reading on the inside meter reading should there be any
discrepancies.
